Let's Go to the Library!
Many years ago, I got my start in family photography using natural light. This would mean careful selection of an outdoor location during a certain time of day so I could hopefully foolproof the lighting quality for the portraits and result in happy clients. Living in central Maine, this would restrict photo sessions to the warmer months of the year, of which we don’t have many.
But thankfully, I’ve found that experience and some out-of-the-box thinking can combine to make indoor locations just as beautiful as outdoor portraits. This is very helpful in the winter month of February. And that’s just what Josh and Sarah came up with—a great location to which their kids have a special connection.
I couldn’t have come up with a better idea than the Bangor Public Library.
Anyone who’s been there knows that the building is beautiful. It has a polished, classic main entrance with beautiful granite stairways and lovely architectural elements adorning the walls and ceilings.
The Bangor Public Library has many large windows which allow a surprising amount of natural light into the space.
It was a wonderful way to get interactive moments of the young family enjoying one of their favorite weekend activities together.
The vintage-styled portion of the library was perfect for some more romantic moments between Josh and Sarah. The last time they had portraits taken was their wedding day, so I was excited to create some new memories of them together.
How beautiful is this stairway moment?
I think outdoor photography will always own a large portion of this photographer’s heart, but this portrait session has left me looking forward to the next opportunity to come back to the Bangor Public Library.
