Home

I like going to weddings, which really works out great for being a wedding photographer, because I love to experience the atmosphere of these important celebrations in people’s lives. I like noticing the details of the day, and hearing about the couple’s story, and seeing how the essential parts of the wedding celebration come together in their own unique way.

Of course, there are parts that everyone does. There's a white dress, a ring, vows, dances, food, and cake (maybe one of my guilty pleasures behind this whole business thing), but each part and its combination is always special.

If I could sum up what I loved about Kaelyn and Leo’s wedding

in one word, it would be, “home.”

Their wedding took place at Leo’s family home just two days after Christmas. It was a pretty chilly December day, but we still had the fresh, beautiful Christmas snow from that week. I was delighted at the thought of doing wedding couple photos with such perfect snow, and boy, did it exceed my expectations!

But back to the “home” feel. Having the wedding in the family home influenced the celebration in such a sweet way. The girls got ready together upstairs, while the family and groom waited downstairs.

The home had been reset to focus on this sacred moment of the family’s future. The living room furniture had been pushed away to make room for the two hearts that would begin their joined story of being united into one. Flowers were arranged on the fireplace mantle, and along the banister of the stairs where the bride would soon make her entrance.

The bride's dad met her at the bottom of the stairs and walked her down the hallway to her groom. There in the middle of the living room floor, vows and rings were exchanged and a new family was formed in the presence of their first family in the center of “home.”

It was poetically fitting that such a sacred day in Kaelyn and Leo’s life together happened surrounded in the embrace of the most important place of a family: home.

Congratulations to Leo and Kaelyn!
